Re: Gabapentin Side Effects

I was also on a cocktail of medications for pain, including 3600 mg of Gabapentin daily. (1200 mg x 3 daily) due to a Ilioinguinal nerve being punctured during an attempted angio gram in 1997.
My problem was with an extremely busy/demanding workday, if I missed my mid-day dosage for any period of time, mentally, I was in space~~no concept of time or presence of location. My mind was racing (90 MPH) while I couldn't concentrate on anything.
It scared my so badly that I removed myself (under doctors supervision at the rate of 100 mg less 3 times a day per week until completely off) My experience on that high of dosage was that it "wired" my mind. A missed dosage put my mind in outer space. Physically present, but mentally absent.
In hind site, I feel extremely fortunate that I did not cause any serious harm to myself or others during these incidents. (especially when driving)
I currently take 400 mg x1 daily which does little to alleviate the pain. While my physician is attempting to push me onto higher dosages,

I am extremely reluctant to go that route based on past negative experiences.
I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that I will be cursed for the rest of my life by debilitating pain.

Opioids (OxyCodone) has been the only thing effective in providing any real relief. (unfortunately, the abuse by the younger generation has really given Oxy-Codone a black eye in society. Taken as prescribed, I never had an addiction problem with it)
Over the years, I have been open to ALL recommended solutions including electrical stimulation and surgery, all without success.

At this point in time, if there is a life's function (wedding, funeral, class reunion, etc.) that I need to attend, I opt for a nerve block, which really varies in the duration of pain relief from 1 week to a couple of months.
As you are all aware, the effects of chronic pain over time is depressing due to inability to function successfully in all daily life's activities.
I wish you all the best!!
