I have been taking amitiza for about 18 monts this go around. I tried it once before several years ago and did not like the side efects. The constipation got so bad that I became William g to do whatever. My dr prescribed me 2-24mcg a day. I started out on this regiment with not very good success. I would cramp and my stomach would feel full and not have a BM. I cut it back to one a day. As soon as I get up in the morning I take a pill with a cup of coffee. The. I drink bottled water until I have a BM. I don't eat anything before I do any of this bc it seems to have an effect on how the medicine works on me. My BM is usually not solid, though occasionally it is. It took me a while to get used to the medicine, but I stuck with it and am glad I have because at this point I don't know what I would do. Take the med on an empty stomach and hydrate yourself well,, it should work wonders. The only side effect I deal with now is occasional shortness of breath.
